What a great first week back! We started by learning the letter Vav - vacuum. We practiced sucking up vavs with a straw vacuum, and made vav puppets.
We spent the week focusing on friendship: what we like to do with our friends, what it means to be a friend, what we can do when our friends are hurt. We started by making a friendship collage to hang on the classroom wall. The kids could paint, glue paper, make handprints, stick stickers, whatever they wanted as a group project.
We also made a friendship chain. Each child was given a paper doll to decorate with markers and tissue paper. We hung them in the classroom above our friendship collage.

We stamped hearts on paper, and then talked about what we love to do with our friends.

We read a lot of books about friendship this week. We read "Rainbow Fish," by Marcus Fister, "Little Blue and Little Yellow," by Leo Lionni, "Do You Want to be My Friend?" by Eric Carle, and "My Friend is Sad," by Mo Willems, ""The Big Blue Spot," by Peter Holwitz. We used some of these themes to make art projects.
We made rainbow fish, with colorful scales...
We painted the hand of one child blue, one child yellow. When they put their hands together, they made green, just like the friends in the books! We then put our handprints together on a paper.
We made friendship bracelets! We practiced with big beads, then smaller beads. Then we made bracelets with cheerios, and we each gave a bracelet to a friend!

We finished the week by making buddy paintings. Each child chose a friend to paint a picture with. Tomorrow they will bring home half of the beautiful artwork!

And because of the focus on friendships, here are some pictures of things we love to do with our friends!
